Bill Rothschild began law practice in 1974. His first bankruptcy case was Braniff I in 1982. Since then he has represented all major parties in chapter 11 and in chapter 7 cases, including debtors in possession, trustees, creditors’ committees, and avoidance defendants. Although his practice is centered in Georgia, he has appeared in courts throughout the country, most often representing purchasers of bankruptcy estate assets. Bill is known for imaginative, business-based solutions, thinking outside the box, and his knowledge of the law. Chapter 7 trustees and others seek his representation concerning complex bankruptcy or state law issues, including appeals in Georgia and federal courts. In 2014, he confirmed a consensual plain for an individual chapter 11 debtor who held 325 separate properties, encumbered by 47 different lenders. Bill is also a mediator. His first mediation occurred in 1981, when, as a congregational rabbi, he resolved a slander suit in part by convincing a pre-teen in one family to apologize to the teenager in another family who, it turns out, had not painted the swastika found in front of the younger child?s home! Bill provides pro bono counsel to the Central Conference of American Rabbis (the “CCAR”) and to the Atlanta Rabbinical Association. He sits on the CCAR’s Budget & Finance Committee, and regularly acts as its acts as its Parliamentarian at its annual convention. In Atlanta, he is a member of the Bible Department and permanent guest teacher at the Westminster Schools, a Christian preparatory school, and announces its home Varsity Girls Soccer games. Bill sits on the board of the Alfred & Adele Davis Academy, a Reform Jewish day school. He regularly writes and speaks on various bankruptcy and bankruptcy-related topics. Bill received his B.A. from Yale and his J.D. from Harvard. He is admitted to practice in Georgia, Ohio, district courts in Georgia and elsewhere, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. He is a member of the Atlanta Bar, the Sandy Springs Barr, the State Bar of Georgia, and their bankruptcy law sections. Bill is Martindale Hubbell AV rated. He is a former member of Leadership Atlanta, and has been one of Georgia’s Top Lawyers by Georgia Trend Magazine and other publications. Bill was born in Atlanta. He and his wife, Brenda, have three grown children and four grandchildren. They enjoy summer travel and winter sports. After family, law practice, and teaching, Bill’s passions are the five string banjo and the snowboard. |
